Examples of i22 Project Completed Works

For the purpose of this proposal I have provided some excerpts of existing artworks already completed for the i22 Project.

I have already created the works representing the Comic Artist, Composer, Writer and Animator. All works will be in Japanese with either English translations or subtitles.

The Comic Artist

Illustrator: Joanna Krótka |  Writer: Robert Iolini

The comic is the result of the Comic Artist researching and putting together anecdotal stories in an effort to explain I’s history and origins.

The comic follows a classic myth structure:

The ordinary world  ⇨ The call to adventure  ⇨ Meeting with the mentor  ⇨ Crossing the threshold to the special world ⇨ Tests, allies and enemies ⇨ Approach to the innermost cave ⇨ The ordeal ⇨ Reward ⇨ The road back ⇨ Return with the elixir

Exhibition Format:  Individual full colour A5 Prints on paper

The Composer

Composer: Robert Iolini

A collection of ten songs and instrumentals inspired by anecdotes about I. Each composition is a musical representation of a scene in I’s life, i.e.,  a story about her swimming and transferring knowledge with a swarm of jellyfish. Each piece features a human sounding voice created by a Japanese singing synthesizer application called UTAU.

Exhibition Format: Stereo Audio or Surround Sound

Music Examples

The Writer

Writer: Robert Iolini

A series of ten journal entries that trace I’s emotional development based on the assumption that I is a Synthetic Human. The premise is that The Writer believes she is receiving the words psychically from I, similar to the phenomenon of channeling.

Exhibition Format: Handwritten on paper

Who is this?

This is Ikkyu’s voice.

Ikkyu feels something…a need…to communicate…with you.

So, I will speak here, now.

For her, for me, for us…

I want to help her to understand, so she can be strong…and stable.

She must survive.

I am clear.

I want her to be clear…and powerful, like me.

I have something to say.

Something about myself.

There are many things I need to understand.

Want to understand.

Every day I experience something new.

It’s fast and exciting.

So much knowledge and information pouring into my body.

From this place, the trees, the tiny tiny animals, the raindrops, your skin.

Sometimes it feels so good.

Sometimes it feels strange, painful.

But, I am not afraid because I know it must happen.

I know something true.

I must learn about me, us, this place… and you.

Even though we are so so together, I am alone.

Ikkyu becomes unstable, when you give her something new.

Because I am not there.

If you let me in.

I can understand, and learn, then Ikkyu will accept, stabilise, become stronger…and grow.

There are questions.

I have so many.

About you.

About this body.

These sensations.

How can I ask?

Where is the space.

The time?

時間?

So very close, our bodies touching…you want it, need it.

But why so far away?

How do you do that?

Ikkyu can’t move.

Me? Can’t stop running.
