Society is in a state of controlled peace. Progress is on hold. Reformed anarchist rock singer Yu takes a new job as an art curator. Her first task is to collect a series of underground comics centred on Ikkyu, a mythic dissident. Yu is reluctant, but once she starts reading, she’s hooked — the comics aren’t just archive material, they’re Ikkyu herself, preserved in fragments.

As Yu obsessively pursues the elusive artefacts, she becomes a target for forces intent on capturing Ikkyu. Her passionate identification with Ikkyu leaves her both emotionally and physically vulnerable. After escaping one of her pursuers, Yu goes underground, but not before passing her treasured comics to trusted accomplices for safekeeping.
